When you know that the ceramic mug you drink from every morning was shaped by someone in a Johannesburg studio who has been working with clay since she was twelve — it tastes different. Context changes everything. We built STORI around that belief.

We launched here on purpose. Not because it was easy — it wasn’t — but because South African makers are among the most creative, resourceful, and underexposed craftspeople in the world. STORI exists to change that last part.
How STORI started
STORI started with a frustration and a conviction.
The frustration: that the best handmade goods in South Africa were invisible. Brilliant makers selling extraordinary things through WhatsApp groups, Facebook posts, and weekend markets — reaching a few hundred people when they deserved to reach thousands.
The conviction: that buyers were ready for something different. That people were tired of buying the same mass-produced things from the same faceless suppliers, and genuinely wanted to know who made what they owned.
We built STORI to connect those two things. Not just a shop — a platform where the maker’s story sits alongside their products, where every purchase comes with context, and where buying something handmade feels the way it should: personal, intentional, and worth remembering.
We’re based in South Africa. We launched here first. And we’re just getting started.
